América defender Sebastián Cáceres has spoken of the irrelevance of the opposition ahead of Sunday’s derby with Pumas.
While there is always going to be increased hype before a Clásico Capitalino, the centre-back claims that the Azulcrema are expected to beat whatever team they come up against.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s Pumas, we need to win,” Cáceres told TUDN.
“We are going to go out and win and impose ourselves. América is the biggest team and more is required of us.
“Obviously, they can also say that we are first in luck, but there we are. It’s always going to be like that, you have to get used to that.”
Las Águilas go into the game top of the Apertura table, despite having taken just two points from their last three league games.
Being leaders makes them favourites to win the tie, much to the chagrin of Cáceres.
“I feel more comfortable when it is the other way around, when everyone kills us or wants us down, because it gives you enough to say: ‘Well, let’s shut them up.'”
The Uruguay U-23 international will be looking to make his fifth league appearance of a campaign that has been disrupted by injury and suspension.
