The Football Association has confirmed it will not be taking action against Sergio Agüero after the Manchester City striker clashed with a Wigan Athletic supporter on Monday evening.

A large number of home supporters invaded the DW Stadium pitch following the League One side’s shock FA Cup fifth round victory over the Premier League leaders, one of whom was involved in an altercation with Agüero.

City officials claim the supporter in question attacked Agüero from behind, spat at him and told him to “suck my d***”, provoking the Argentine to lash out in anger.

And according to various reports, the club are now considering taking legal action against the Latics fan for his role in the incident.

City are also understood to have lodged a complaint with English football’s governing body about Wigan’s handling of the match and their failure to provide adequate stewarding for a local derby of such magnitude.

Both clubs have also been asked to provide the FA with their observations regarding the half-time fracas involving City boss Pep Guardiola and his Wigan counterpart Paul Cook.

However, City have so far given no indication that they intend to appeal Fabian Delph’s red card meaning the 28-year-old is likely to serve a three-match domestic ban, starting with this Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.
