Atalanta put an end to their crisis with a badly-needed victory over Bologna, hanging on to third place thanks to Mateo Retegui and Mario Pasalic goals, but lost Sead Kolasinac to injury.
This was a huge head-to-head for third place, knowing Juventus had already won last night to leap into fourth. Charles De Ketelaere joined Stefan Posch, Gianluca Scamacca, Giorgio Scalvini and Marco Palestra on the treatment table, but Rafael Toloi and Odilon Kossounou returned to the bench, as La Dea tried to recover from three consecutive defeats. The Rossoblu saw their run of six competitive wins stalled by a 1-1 draw with Napoli, losing Lewis Ferguson, Lukasz Skorupski and Davide Calabria to injury.
Bologna knocked Atalanta out of the Coppa Italia with a 1-0 quarter-final victory here on February 4 and won four of their last five meetings.
It was the perfect start for Atalanta, as after two minutes Raoul Bellanova ran onto a long ball down the right and rolled across, where Retegui anticipated Sam Beukema to tap in from six yards at the near post. This ended a run of three consecutive Dea matches without scoring a single goal.
Retegui was also decisive for the second goal, as he went down under pressure from Jhon Lucumi near the corner flag, got back up and put in a wonderful cross for Mario Pasalic’s cushioned finish from eight yards. The Bologna defenders seemed surprised and slow to react.

The Rossoblu caused their first real threat on 26 minutes, as Lorenzo De Silvestri flicked on a corner for Riccardo Orsolini’s volley at the back post, charged down from point-blank range by Davide Zappacosta.
Marco Carnesecchi got a strong hand to a Dan Ndoye strike from the edge of the area, palming it onto the inside of the upright.
Orsolini shrugged off Sead Kolasinac for a ball pulled across the face of goal, deflected just beyond Dallinga. However, Kolasinac fell awkwardly during that move and was stretchered off with fears of a serious left knee injury.

Bologna made three changes for the restart and one of the substitutes, Benjamin Dominguez, tested Carnesecchi at the near post before a curler was smothered.
Carnesecchi also had to palm a dangerous Juan Miranda cross-shot out from under the bar, while Niccolò Casale’s header on a Miranda free kick was charged down by Rafael Toloi at the near post.
Vincenzo Italiano was forced into his fifth substitution, as Casale hurt his shoulder during a collision with Ederson, while Remo Freuler’s chest and volley went over the bar against his former club.
Remarkably, this was Atalanta’s first home win of 2025.
