It is well-established by now that FC Barcelona will go after a top left-winger in the summer transfer window.

One of the top targets for the Blaugrana to reinforce the position happens to be AC Milan and Portugal forward Rafael Leao.

The 25-year-old was on Barça’s radar in the summer as well, with a move having been explored after the Nico Williams deal fell through, but nothing came of it.

However, heading into 2025, the Catalans may have just been handed a major boost in their pursuit of the Portuguese international.

Leao leaning towards exit, would favour Barcelona

Indeed, according to Fichajes, Leao is leaning towards a departure from AC Milan in the summer of 2025 and he would favour a transfer to Barcelona if he does end up leaving.

The forward’s strained relationship with coach Paulo Fonseca, marked by recent tensions, has fueled rumours of his departure, with Barça very much alert to the situation.

Leao has hinted at his desire for a new challenge. While he has been a key figure for Milan in recent seasons, the wear and tear on his relationship with Fonseca and the opportunity to join a project like Barcelona’s are highly appealing to him.

The Catalans’ sporting management is closely monitoring the situation, aware that the current context might allow them to negotiate a transfer for a price lower than usual.

Within the Barça circles, the possibility of securing a player of Leao’s quality is seen as a unique opportunity. His ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations and his knack for making a difference in attack align perfectly with their philosophy.

Moreover, the situation at Milan, where the forward does not feel fully supported by his coach, could make a deal more feasible – one that, under different circumstances, would be nearly unattainable for Barcelona.
