Serie A round up: Roma squeeze past Juventus in crucial title clash | OneFootball

Roma are on the brink of retaining their Serie A title after they edged out Juventus in Monday’s top-of-the-table clash. The reigning champions recorded a 2-1 victory to move 13 points clear with five games left to play.

Sassuolo 2-1 Inter

Sassuolo came from a goal down to beat Inter in Saturday’s home meeting. After playing out a goalless first half, Inter found the breakthrough in the opening stages of the second period. The referee pointed to the spot after Henrietta Csiszár was brought down in the box. Lina Magull stepped up to send Solène Durand the wrong way and register her seventh Serie A goal.

Sassuolo quickly pulled themselves level through Daniela Sabatino’s 50th minute effort. Lana Clelland went on to net the winning goal for the hosts. The Scottish attacker cut inside before drilling the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. The win helped Sassuolo leapfrog Inter into fourth place in the Serie A table.

Roma 2-1 Juventus

Roma required just five minutes to open the scoring against their title rivals. Alayah Pilgrim drove inside onto her right foot before thumping the ball in at the near post. Pilgrim’s first Serie A goal proved enough to give the hosts a narrow half-time lead. Juventus flew out of the blocks in the second period, restoring parity within two minutes of the restart. Cristiana Girelli stuck out her right foot to steer the ball home from Arianna Caruso’s dangerous free-kick.

Juve were then dealt a significant setback when substitute Barbara Bonansea was dismissed in the 80th minute for two bookable offences. Roma ultimately made full use of the numerical advantage to snatch all three points through Evelyne Viens. The Canada international saw her initial effort saved, but she made no mistake when the ball eventually came back to her. As a result of the win, Roma will now have the chance to clinch the Serie A title when they face Fiorentina on Saturday.

AC Milan 3-2 Napoli

Milan were forced to work hard to claim all three points in their clash with Napoli. Marta Mascarello nodded home from Nadia Nadim’s lofted cross to break the deadlock in first-half stoppage time. Eli del Estal produced a glancing header to level the scoreline just after the hour mark. The hosts quickly retook the lead through Valentina Bergamaschi, whose left-foot strike found its way past Beatrice Beretta.

Napoli thought they had salvaged a point when Julie Piga inadvertently diverted the ball into her own net in the 87th minute. However, there was to be one final twist in a gripping encounter. Kamila Dubcová pounced on a rebound to guide home a stoppage-time winner.

Pomigliano 1-2 Como

Relegation-threatened Pomigliano suffered a seventh consecutive defeat in Sunday’s home meeting with Como. Oona Sevenius raced into the box before slotting past Emilie Gavillet to open the scoring in the 16th spot. After falling behind, the hosts issued a swift response through Nicole Arcangeli. The Juventus loanee sent her dipping free-kick over the wall and into the bottom corner.

However, Sevenius went on to restore Como’s slender lead in the second period. The Finland international unleashed a fierce right-foot shot beyond the despairing dive of Gavillet. Pomigliano remain rooted to the bottom of the table with four points separating them from Napoli.
