Serie A bottom side Monza have announced the return of Alessandro Nesta as head coach - less than two months after he was dismissed.

After a disappointing start to the campaign, the Italian football legend was sacked in December and replaced with Salvatore Bocchetti.

But his replacement fared little better, managing just one win in seven games before he too was shown the door following Sunday's 5-1 loss to Lazio: their fourth successive defeat.

Monza have now announced the return of Nesta, who remained on the payroll, and he will be hoping to improve on his first spell which saw him pick up just one victory from 17 games.

His task is a mammoth one, with Monza looking set for a Serie B return given that they are currently rooted to the foot of the table, eight points from safety.
