Napoli were handed an enormous reality-check in their first Serie A match of the season, losing 3-0 away to Hellas Verona in what was Antonio Conte’s first league match in charge of the Partenopei. Check out the player ratings from Sunday’s stunner.

Conte has expressed multiple times that he needs more signings to make Napoli a competitive side once again. Today’s performance certainly supported those claims.

Losing Kvaratskhelia (6) moments before half-time was a cruel blow. There is little doubting the Georgian’s quality on the ball and he was always looking to make things happen before his early withdrawal.

On the opposite flank, Matteo Politano (6.5) became the only real creative threat once Kvaratskhelia went off, but the Italian was not able to carry the team on his own.

Defensively, Napoli were poor on the night. There was no Alessandro Buongiorno, of course, but his replacement, Juan Jesus (4) struggled quite a lot, and was partly to blame for Verona’s opener.

Napoli’s poor showing should not take away from what was a super performance from Paolo Zanetti’s side. Substitute Daniel Mosquera (9) grabbed a brace on his debut and surely goes away as the player of the match, despite only coming on with 17 minutes of regular time left to play.

Ondrej Duda (7.5) put in a solid display in the middle of the park, while Jackson Tchatchoua was equally impressive at full-back.
