Sheffield United forward Sigsworth announces retirement | OneFootball

Sheffield United forward Jess Sigsworth has announced her retirement from playing professional football at the age of 29.

The player took to her personal Instagram account to announce her decision this afternoon.

Sigsworth spent her youth representing Doncaster Rovers Belles Juniors and the Sheffield United academy. The forward returned to Belles in 2011 to start her senior career. Sigsworth spent four years turning out for the South Yorkshire side in the top tier before briefly moving to Notts County. Sigsworth soon returned to Doncaster Rovers Belles where she spent two further campaigns. She was unable to keep the club in the top flight but the player topped the Barclays Women’s Championship’s goalscoring charts in 2017/2018, her 15-goal contribution helping Belles to the league title.

In summer 2018, Sigsworth joined the all-new senior side at Manchester United. The life-long Manchester United fan carried on her goalscoring exploits at Barclays Women’s Championship level. Sigsworth netted 17 goals in 19 games as The Red Devils won promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League at the first attempt. The forward spent two further campaigns with Manchester United as the club cemented their position as an established top tier side.

In summer 2021, Sigsworth joined Leicester City where she spent two seasons before ending her professional playing career with a one-year spell back at Sheffield United last term.

Sigsworth hangs up her boots having gained legendary status at both Doncaster Rovers Belles and Manchester United. She will also be remembered as one of the Barclays Women’s Championship’s most feared forwards.
