The Blades look set to be victorious in the race for free agent Callum O'Hare, following his exit from the Sky Blues.

Sheffield United are set to win the race for Callum O'Hare, according to Alan Nixon.

Nixon has also confirmed that Leeds United were in the race, but they are now likely to miss out on the attacking midfielder.

There was always going to be a high amount of competition for O'Hare following his exit from Coventry City, with the ex-Aston Villa man showing a major amount of quality during his time at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

He may have spent a chunk of his time in the Midlands out of action with a severe injury, but he managed to return to action and proved to be a real asset for much of the 2023/24 campaign.

Registering plenty of goals and assists, he did more than enough to put himself in the shop window and despite Coventry's best efforts to tie him down to a new deal, he has exited the Sky Blues.

It was previously unclear whether his next destination was going to be a Premier League team or a Championship club, with the 26-year-old having the potential to operate at the top level in the future.

But he looks set for a switch to Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United closing in on Callum O'Hare

The Blades may not be able to make too many major signings until a takeover deal materialises.

This looked set to disrupt United's transfer window, but they have made some decent signings already this summer.

Jamie Shackleton and Sam McCallum have both joined on free transfers - and look set to be important players for Chris Wilder during the upcoming season.

And O'Hare looks set to join as United's third signing of the window - with the Blades offering him a sizeable wage and a large signing-on fee.

This comes after days of negotiating with interesting teams, according to Nixon.

Kieffer Moore is also set to join on a loan-to-buy deal from AFC Bournemouth.

Sheffield United have made an excellent start to the transfer window

Some excellent additions have been made to strengthen their squad.

Shackleton is a versatile option who can operate as a full-back and a central midfielder - and could be a great squad option to have for Wilder.

McCallum, meanwhile, should be an excellent asset at left-back, following Max Lowe's departure.

Another option was needed on the left-hand side, so bringing in the ex-Norwich man was an excellent idea.

In terms of Moore, he could be a regular scorer for the Blades during the 2024/25 campaign, and his presence could be much-needed following Cameron Archer's departure.

Having the Welshman could be a game-changer for United - and he's an exciting addition.

O'Hare is another player who can contribute a great deal in the final third, with his presence behind a player like Moore likely to scare most Championship defences.

It's not guaranteed that he will settle in and be an asset straight away, but the attacking midfielder is a very low-risk addition on a free transfer. It remains to be seen whether he can hit the ground running at Bramall Lane.
