Sheffield United host Luton Town at Bramall Lane on Saturday, with the Blades looking to build on their 1-0 win over Swansea City on Wednesday evening.

The Blades are back in the Championship with Luton after the pair suffered relegation from the Premier League last season. Both Chris Wilder and Rob Edwards will be hoping to guide the team back to the top-flight at the first attempt.

Wilder has previously overseen promotion at Bramall Lane in 2019, and despite facing a two-point deduction at the start of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, his side are considered to be among the favorites again this term.

So far, they have had a strong introduction to the new season and find themselves situated in third place in the table. Rather more impressively, though, is that Wilder's side are the last team to remain unbeaten in league action after eight encounters.

That's following Blackburn Rovers' first defeat of the campaign in mid-week, leaving Birmingham City and Sheffield United as the final two EFL sides yet to taste defeat in the league, and they will hope that they can continue that streak against Luton.

The win on Wednesday night wasn't exactly a vintage performance that will live in the memory for a long time, but it got the job done and secured a crucial three points. However, Wilder made some surprise changes in that game, which perhaps can be explained by the looming fixture on Saturday against another of the pre-season favourites for promotion.

FLW's Blades fan pundit, Jimmy from the Blades Ramble YouTube channel has explained that he would revert those personnel choices back on Saturday against Luton. He said: "It was a strange one from Wilder against Swansea.

"I understand that he might have had one eye on Saturday and the Luton game, but let's now get the main boys back in.

"It felt a little bit disjointed in the first-half, and so much better once we had Moore leading the line with the high press.

"Gilchrist as well, even though I thought Jamie Shackleton did a decent job at right-back.

"Let's get Gilchrist in as well, for that greater defensive solidity.

"We start to look like a real team when our main boys are on the pitch, so those are the two changes I would make."

The Blades are expected to be there or thereabouts come the end of the campaign, in part due to quality operators at their disposal who have been there and done it in the Championship.

It is the job of Wilder to live up to those expectations and deliver, even if performance levels have not necessarily always been at their best. Michael Cooper has come up with big saves at times, Gus Hamer has provided match-winning goals for them as well.

Not only that, but you can always be helped out with a bit of luck, as they got on Wednesday through the Swansea own goal. It must also be a bit of a concern for their divisional rivals, because these players will hit even better form eventually.

That could be a real problem for the other promotion hopefuls if they are flying high despite not hitting their optimum levels consistently.
