QPR boss Marti Cifuentes has given his view that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, like other German coaches, will instruct his team to play aggressive football and regain the ball high up the pitch tonight.
Crystal Palace knocked Norwich City out in the EFL Cup second round and now they are set to face Cifuentes’s QPR in the third round.
Cifuentes’ side are coming into the Crystal Palace game on the back of a draw against Sheffield Wednesday, who are coached by German tactician Danny Rohl.
And the QPR boss believes that like any other German coach, Glasner’s Crystal Palace try to win the ball high up the pitch with their aggressive mentality and will look for an opportunity to punish the opposition.
Cifuentes stressed that the game against Crystal Palace will be a test for his team, who tries to beat the opposition press by playing the ball on the ground.
“They have very good players and their manager did a very good job last season”, Cifuentes told QPR TV.
“I am sure they want to have a good run in the cup, so I am very aware that they will try to go all in and we will need to be ready for the challenge because, in some way the German manager as well, it is going to be a similar picture of the game.
“It is true that most of the time they play with three at the back, very physical at the back, players with capacity to cover big spaces, but the whole approach is being aggressive, regaining the ball high and punishing you when you give away trying to build up.
“So in that sense, it is going to be a very good test to see how much we could improve in the last two, four days and especially to keep developing this identity as a team that we want to build up and that we want to beat high press through playing the ball on the ground. “
Crystal Palace have had a slow start to the season and Glasner’s side will be hoping to give their season a momentum by winning tonight.
