After sealing the arrival of Antony on loan earlier this week, Real Betis have set their sights on another out-of-favour Manchester United star.
Indeed, the 10th-placed La Liga outfit have reportedly ‘made enquiries’ (as per Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth) over a potential deal for Tyrell Malacia, whom United are ‘open’ to offloading – primarily due to the impending transfer of left-back Patrick Dorgu.
The Reds finally reached a full agreement with Lecce on Tuesday to sign the 20-year-old, in turn paving the way for Malacia to complete a move elsewhere.
He would only fall further in the pecking order upon Dorgu’s arrival, having made just four starts in total (two in the UEL and two in the Premier League) under Amorim. The fact that the boss prefers Diogo Dalot, a natural right-back, on the left-hand side indicates where Malacia ranks in his estimations.

It’s been nothing short of a tumultuous tenure for Malacia since he left his native Netherlands to become Erik ten Hag’s first-ever signing back in the summer of 2022. He played second fiddle to Luke Shaw throughout his maiden campaign, generally impressing supporters when given the nod before he sustained a significant injury setback on the final day of the 2022/2023 season.
The knee issue kept the 25-year-old sidelined for the entirety of 2023/2024 and the beginning of 2024/2025. He returned to the fold last November after 17 months but was unable to claim a starting spot, being an unused substitute for nine matches over the last 10 weeks.
There are doubts as to whether Malacia is at the calibre Amorim requires in his newly implemented system, so it’ll be intriguing to see whether an option or obligation to buy is included in his prospective loan terms. As it stands, he’s tied to Old Trafford until 2026 – plus the option of an additional season.
