Some talking points from the win over Manchester United

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs recorded back to back Premier League wins for the first time since September - against the same two opponents - when they overcame Manchester United with a 1-0 win at home. Truth be told, it could have gone either way, but you can't beat that winning feeling.

Perhaps there have been more entertaining games this season - for better or for worse - but there were plenty of talking points regardless. Let's dissect some of the key things we noticed during the game.

The main talking points from the crucial win over Manchester United

After Tottenham Hotspur's Carabao Cup first leg victory over Liverpool at the beginning of January, there were some shouts that Antonin Kinsky could become the first choice between the sticks, even when Guglielmo Vicario was back from his ankle injury.

Those shouts began to wain when Kinsky showed some inconsistencies, which is fine for someone of his age, but still happened. After Sunday, there are surely no more of those shouts. We saw Vicario pick up where he left off - with a clean sheet and a number of impressive saves.

Again, as mentioned multiple times over the last few weeks, this is no dig at Kinsky. For his age, he is a very good goalkeeper. He will make mistakes - in the same way Alisson and Thibaut Courtois also make mistakes.

It is more about just how good a goalkeeper Vicario is. The way he got down to deny Alejandro Garnacho's near post effort in the second half on Sunday was just unbelievable. To be 6'4 and get down that quickly takes some serious agility.

Although Spurs did allow some presentable opportunities to Ruben Amorim's side, there is undoubtedly more confidence in the defensive collective with Vicario in goal. There were only two clean sheets kept during his three month absence - Fraser Forster against Southampton, and Kinsky against Brentford. Great to have him back.

Undoubtedly the comeback story of the season, Spence has surely now nailed down a starting spot in Spurs' best XI. As recently as the summer, his future was not in the club's hands, with Serie A side Genoa having a 10 million option to buy. Thank the lord they did not activate that.

Despite Destiny Udogie now being available, Spence should remain in the side. The fact he has been playing so well has been handy regarding not having to rush the Italian back. With Pedro Porro clearly shattered, a lot of fans are hoping to see a full back duo of Spence and Udogie pretty soon.

Although Thomas Tuchel was not at the game on Sunday, you'd like to think he has been paying attention to Spence's performances of late, and is considering calling him up, either as a left back or right back - with Gary Lineker tipping him to get one next month. From a selfish point of view, you would hope he can get rest during the international break - but it would do him the world of good.

During the win over United, the full-back recorded; one clearance, two blocked shots, two tackles, 88 touches, 7/8 ground duels won, two fouls drawn, and 3/4 successful dribble attempts, in perhaps his most impressive performance of his recent renaissance.

In this game, we ultimately saw why Spurs do need to sign a pure defensive midfielder. On the ball, Bentancur played well, evading pressure and helping Ange's side to keep the ball. In his 78 minutes on the pitch, he had 74 touches, 1/1 accurate crosses, and 2/2 accurate long balls.

However, he was often overran in there (tough midfield set up for him collectively and individually, it is worth mentioning), lost all three of his ground duels, and made one foul with zero tackles. Not ideal for the deepest midfielder. For context, Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-Min Son, and James Maddison all made a tackle each.

The best balance feels like playing Bentancur and Pape Sarr in the same line up, but that will not always be possible, with the likes of Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, and Kulusevski when he does play in midfield. He is a fine player, little doubt about that - but it is clear Spurs do need a more natural fit there in the summer.

If he can stay fit, that is. Just like against AZ Alkmaar, we saw a bright cameo from Odobert on Sunday. Hopefully he hasn't picked up an injury like he did in that game. In just three minutes on the pitch, he completed 2/3 dribbles, and won 2/3 of his ground duels.

During the final moments of the game, he had a chance to be through on goal, but perhaps Spence's first 'mistake' of the game was his weight of pass for the through ball, and Harry Maguire was able to clean up. Nevertheless, it was an encouraging cameo, and shows the sort of excitement he provides.

Needless to say, it is just about keeping fit now. If he can, all of a sudden, Spurs are beginning to have quite a bit depth at that end of the pitch. On the left hand side, Ange has the option to play Odobert, Son, or Mathys Tel.
