Tomáš Souček has spoken about his “love” for West Ham after his latest heroics for the club.

The Czech Republic midfielder came up with a big goal at the weekend to secure a 1-1 draw at Brentford, and ease the growing pressure on new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Speaking to the Athletic, Souček talked about his connection with the Irons’ fanbase, and dispelled rumours that he was not popular among them.

“When the fans sang my song, I know I have a great connection,” said Souček.

“In the last few weeks, in my country, the media said the West Ham fans did not like me.

“I don’t think that could actually be further from the truth. I love this club.”

The 29-year-old also said he and his teammates should be “ashamed” of becoming the latest side to concede inside the opening 60 seconds to Brentford, but praised their second half comeback.

“It’s very important (the point) but we have to be ashamed of the goal we conceded in the first minute,” he added.

“They’ve done it three times in a row and we had to chase the game after. But in the second half, we showed character and that is how we have to be in every game no matter what.”

West Ham and Souček are next in action on Saturday when they host Ipswich at the London Stadium, where they will look to end a run of three consecutive home defeats.
