Southampton defender Charlie Taylor has admitted that he would've considered a January transfer exit under Russell Martin. He is now excited under Ivan Juric.

Despite only being signed in the summer transfer window, Charlie Taylor has already found himself unhappy at St Marys Stadium. Signed by Russell Martin for free at the end of last season, Taylor hardly had a look in under the former Saints boss.

In fact, there were a few Southampton fans who would've forgot we even signed him. That's how outcasted he was at times.

After making two Premier League starts in September, Taylor was then forced to make measly minutes from the bench for the months which followed. Therefore, he understandably became frustrated.

According to a report by George Rees-Julian of the Daily Echo, Charlie Taylor admitted that he would have looked for an exit from Southampton in January if Russell Martin was still the manager. However, he spoke highly of Ivan Juric and how he's changed the environment at St Marys.

In his own words, Taylor said: "Football changes so quickly. Under the last manager, I wasn't getting a look in. So January was probably something I would have had to think about. But, the new manager has come in and it's a clean slate for everyone. Everyone is fighting for their spots. That's only going to breed good, healthy competition."

The competition for places has been rife at Southampton this season. It would be unfair on Russell Martin if we didn't mention that. However, it is perhaps the fault of Martin's stubbornness that players such as Taylor felt like they weren't even considered for contention.

Hopefully, Ivan Juric can use more players between now and the end of the season. The upcoming FA Cup action presents an excellent opportunity to do this. However, other than the cup, there won't be many chances to rotate the squad.
