The Saints have suffered relegation with a 20th place finish in the Premier League table, even with a few games still to play.

The club are hoping to avoid equalling Derby County’s record low tally of 11 points, but will also have their attention turned to the summer and appointing a head coach that can turn things around at St. Mary’s.

Here we take a look at all the latest news surrounding Southampton’s search for a permanent successor to Ivan Juric…

According to Talksport, David Wagner has emerged as a potential contender for the Southampton managerial vacancy.

The German has enjoyed success in the Championship in the past, previously leading Huddersfield Town to the Premier League in 2017, and even maintained their place in the division beyond the first campaign.

The 53-year-old also oversaw Norwich City’s run to the play-offs last season, leading them to a sixth place finish before being dismissed.

Wagner has remained out of work since, but is reportedly on the shortlist of options to replace Juric, who was sacked in April.

Danny Rohl and Frank Lampard have also been mentioned as possible options, with the former currently working with Sheffield Wednesday, while the latter is set to oversee Coventry City’s play-off semi-final clash with Sunderland.

David Wagner warning

Speaking exclusively to FLW, Don Goodman has issued a warning to Southampton over potentially hiring Wagner as manager.

He believes that supporters might be underwhelmed by his arrival, even if he has an impressive record at this level.

"I should imagine the Southampton job is going to be quite an attractive one, really," said Goodman.

"They would hope to attract quite a high-profile manager. David Wagner - you cannot argue with what he did at Huddersfield Town in the Championship, and when you reflect, and you look at Norwich's really disappointing season this season, the fact that he was able to get them into the play-offs last season suggests that he did a decent job.

"Having said all that, I do not think the Norwich fans were overly enamoured with the style of play, and I certainly think that the Southampton fans would probably be slightly underwhelmed.

"However, you can't argue with his record - that is for sure."

Eric Ramsay and Will Still talks

It has also been reported by Talksport that the club have held talks with the likes of Eric Ramsay and Will Still.

Ramsay previously worked as a coach at both Chelsea and Manchester United, and is currently in charge of MLS club Minnesota United.

Meanwhile, Still is manager of French side Lens, having taken over the first team squad last summer.

However, it’s understood that former Rangers and Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is not under consideration for the role.

It’s believed that Southampton are willing to take their time with this appointment, so we could yet be waiting a number of weeks before an official decision is made.
