Southampton forward's individualistic claim pinpoints decreasing unity in squad

Cameron Archer has stated that he will do what's best for him while nodding that the entire squad should be together to win Championship promotion next season.

We all agree that a Top Flight club and a Championship club can't compete with one another simply. If there weren’t such a huge difference, maybe all the newcomers wouldn't be going down this season again.

Still, the gap in individual player quality between these leagues isn’t always as vast as some might think. After all, the success story of former Championship star Che Adams is in front of everyone.

Sadly, that's what the current Southampton players fail to realize. Yes, we talk of the growing resistance among the Saints players for a Championship season next.

Notably, while star trio Aaron Ramsdale, Tyler Dibling and Taylor Harwood-Bellis had it pre-decided to leave Southampton next season, another name is tipped to be on this list.

Ok, let's not drag out the suspense, it's forward Cameron Archer.

This is because, recently, in a media address, Archer looked uninterested in the idea of continuing for Southampton in the Championship. While he agreed to urge for unity among the squad next season, the forward didn't hesitate to sound individualistic.

Archer's comment must raise alarm bells for Southampton

As quoted by the Daily Echo, Archer said: "Obviously, you come in every day and do what's best for you. Obviously, you have to stay professional."

Well, though Archer leaving remains a speculation, this comment doesn't send a positive message to the fans.

But again, can we really expect more from a newcomer like Archer when even homegrown talents are pushing for a move?

Now, no matter how hard one tries, it is difficult to be optimistic for even Southampton's Championship season. After all, it's the squad unity and a hunger to improve together that ties success knots.

Sorry to say, but that unity is missing in the Saints squad, at least for now. Whether they improve it before next season remains to be seen.
