Southampton have completed the signing of teenage midfielder Shea Charles from Manchester City.
The club have confirmed the 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at St.Mary’s, becoming their second signing of the summer following the arrival of Ryan Manning on Tuesday.
The Telegraph are reporting that the Championship side will pay an initial fee worth £10.5m, rising to £15m with add-ons.
Charles, who can also operate as a centre-back, had been with the City academy since the age of seven and made his senior debut for the champions against Brentford in their final game of last season.
He captained the Manchester City U21 side to a third successive Premier League 2 title last season and has already earned eight caps for the Northern Ireland national team.
“Shea is a very talented, intelligent and mature young player with great potential to develop his game with us,” Saints boss Russell Martin said.
“He has been well schooled at Manchester City, coming through an elite Academy all the way to the first team.
“We’ve watched him closely and we’re confident he’s got the right attributes to help us in the way we’re going to play.”
