Southampton stance on Burnley boss clarified as search for Ralph Hasenhuttl replacement begins | OneFootball

There is no truth to suggestions that Southampton are considering Burnley manager Vincent Kompany as a replacement for Ralph Hasenhuttl, according to Alan Nixon.

The South Coast club announced this morning that the Austrian coach had been given his marching orders and it seems they may turn to the Championship in their search for his successor.

Reports have suggested that Luton Town boss Nathan Jones is their top target and that the Saints want to make an appointment before Saturday’s Premier League game against Liverpool.

However, Nixon has claimed that there is no truth to any suggestions that Kompany is also being targetted by Southampton.

The Belgian took charge at Burnley in the summer and has the Clarets top of the Championship as things stand.

His side were beaten 5-2 by Sheffield United on the weekend but have been the standout side in the second tier this season.

The Verdict

This is good news for Burnley fans, who may well be breathing a sigh of relief.

It does seem a bit too soon to be talking about Kompany moving to a Premier League club but he’s certainly done an impressive job at Turf Moor so far.

He’s changed the team’s style of play completely and is working with nearly a completely new squad after a busy summer window but still has them top of the Championship.

If he keeps that up then there will surely be links with a job in the top flight but for the time being, it seems the former Manchester City captain will be staying put at Turf Moor.
