Adam Armstrong has opened up about thriving in the Premier League with West Brom. At a stage when his current form has gone downhill, these opinions seem ironic instead of motivational from the 28-year-old.

Southampton's current Premier League crop hardly consists of any title-winners regardless of whether they won some accolades in England or abroad. Due to this, they lie miles behind other English clubs in terms of framing realistic season ambitions.

Now, it was only this week when Aaron Ramsdale went as far as saying that Southampton can embark on a winning hat-trick while the squad is yet to win three times in the entire campaign. Honestly, a good portion of Southampton fans might come to Ramsdale's defence by listing his goalkeeping heroics across the top-flight which can't be denied.

Still, they will find it hard to do the same for one of his former Southampton teammates. That courageous Saint is Adam Armstrong who has recently attempted to please his loan outfit, West Brom.

Armstrong makes bold Premier League claim despite past miseries

Now, showing gratitude towards his current surroundings is commendable but Armstrong shared his Premier League dreams for the Baggies as well.

In his own words, Armstrong said on the Championship matchday programme: "Working with the gaffer here before played a massive part and I just wanted to enjoy my football. That was the biggest thing and I see it as another opportunity to try and get back to the Premier League, but with Albion this time."

At first glance, these words are a statement of intent from Armstrong but the Saints know about his longstanding Premier League shortcomings.

The 28-year-old hasn't struggled for game time in the top-flight but his past performances have been disappointing if not terrible. Hence, the chances of him enjoying a fine Premier League spell in the future are already minuscule even if he guides West Brom to achieve their promotion objective.

Nonetheless, experience is always useful for the long-run and who knows, a Southampton departure could prompt Armstrong to find his Premier League scoring boots.
