Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has left the door open for a future move to Manchester United.

Ever since Ruben Amorim agreed to take over the head coach role at Old Trafford, there has been much talk in the press that he will take the 26 year old striker with him.

Gyokeres is in red-hot form as he is the joint top scorer in this season’s Champions League with five goals and he has plundered a massive total of 23 in all competitions for Sporting.

He is currently on international duty with Sweden, where he has also been in lethal form, netting five goals and four assists in five Nations League matches, including a goal against Slovakia last night.

The Swede is said to be available for £20 million less than his release clause and Sporting Lisbon are reportedly open to a sale in the summer.

Speaking to Swedish outlet, Fotbollskanalen, the attacker opened up on his long term future.

When asked about whether he will move in the summer he stated, “it’s not something I think about. Of course, you want to play out the season at Sporting and I enjoy myself there, so there is no stress for me to make a move in the future. We’ll see when the time comes.”

Gyokeres also claimed that when the time comes for him to move on, he had no particular preference to where we will end up.

“It’s hard for me to say. I have no particular preference. We’ll see if it works out in the future, how it feels then.”

He also spoke of his sadness that Amorim was leaving Sporting by claiming, “it is very sad that he is leaving, but of course we understand his decision. He has obviously meant a lot considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much.”

The in-form striker then stated that he isn’t paying too much attention to links to reconnecting with his former manager in the near future as it is all “talk” at the moment but implied that he would certainly be open to a reunion with the 39 year old.

When asked directly about United’s interest he hardly slammed the door shut by asserting, “he probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see.”

Gyokeres did outline what he expects from a new club and this was to “get an important role and that you get to play. That is the most important thing. There are other pieces that should also be in place, but I’ll have to take it when it comes.”

With Barcelona recently ruling themselves out of the running for the striker and Gyokeres’ total trust in Amorim to get the best out of him, United should be in a very strong position to strike if they decide to push ahead with a move for the Scandinavian sensation.
