Tottenham showed a glimpse of greatness in their last match.

Despite having been stuck in 15th place in the Premier League, Tottenham managed to climb three places after their 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

The Lillywhites had been enduring a tough season, with recent games such as their EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool, where they were thrashed 4-0.

However, the latest win wouldn’t have been possible without Spurs’ midfielder, James Maddison.

It’s well-known that Maddison’s journey in the team, under manager Ange Postecoglou, hasn’t been smooth sailing.

From what we've observed, the Spurs manager still doesn’t seem to have full trust in James Maddison.

The 28-year-old Englishman has received mixed reviews this season, in addition to being relegated to the bench at least seven times in the Premier League.

In response, the midfielder scored the winning goal. Let’s remember that he was recently injured and has just returned.

Although his performance was commendable, those present at the match said that the victory and celebrations were overshadowed by chants and protests off the pitch aimed at Daniel Levy.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, the host of the Lilywhite Rose podcast, John Wenham, said that the changes made by the manager have been 'unsettling'.

"Maddison’s numbers this season have actually been really good," Wenham said. "For an attacking midfielder, he has scored more goals in the Premier League than most clubs’ strikers have this season.

“I feel he is always deserving of a starting spot. However, Postecoglou seems to change his midfield every week, which means Maddison has never really been settled during Postecoglou’s entire tenure."

It would indeed be a shame for Maddison to be relegated to the bench after contributing good statistics to the club.

Though we understand that injuries play a significant role in the decisions made by Ange Postecoglou.
