Amidst the full slate of games across the English Football League, there was Championship action for Ashley Phillips' Stoke City, and Dane Scarlett's Oxford United. The former were in action away to Burnley, whilst the latter faced Millwall, also on the road.

How everything went in the second tier on New Year's Day

For the game up at Burnley, Phillips was again named in the starting XI by interim manager Ryan Shawcross. It would prove to be another productive day at the office for everyone concerned, with Stoke securing a hard fought, and hard earned point in a 0-0 draw at Turf Moor, making it two clean sheets in a row.

Having played 85 minutes in the win over Sunderland last time out, Phillips played the full 90 here - and played no small part in the impressive shut out. The 19-year old made; eight clearances, one blocked shot, and one interception in a big team effort. This point leaves the Potters in 19th place in the Championship, with 26 points from their 25 games so far.

This was the second, and last game under Shawcross' interim stewardship, with former Coventry City manager Mark Robins being confirmed as the replacement for Narcis Pelach. The 55-year old was known for developing players during his time at the Sky Blues, with players such as Gus Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres thriving under him. He has certainly got a tune out of much worse players than Phillips.

This could be irrelevant if the young defender is to be recalled by Spurs in January, with reports suggesting it is possible. However, Paul O Keefe has said that, in his opinion - Ange "does not rate" the teenagaer. Again, that is his opinion - not any sort of confirmation - but is interestign to note down nonetheless.

Elsewhere, Scarlett's Oxford side made it three wins from three to start the Gary Rowett era, as the new manager got one over his former club Millwall. However, the young Spurs striker was again an unused sub - with there being recent speculation that he may be recalled in January. He has played just 703 minutes in the league this season. For context, Matthew Craig, who has played 37 minutes of league football since October - has played 795 minutes.

Nevertheless, these nine points have left Rowett's side in 18th place in the Championship, with 27 points from 24 games. It is a trip to Preston North End next up for the U's this Saturday, with a 15:00 GMT kick off for that one.
