The former Birmingham City man impressed for the Buddies in the Scottish Premiership last season
Leyton Orient have reportedly had a bid in the region of £175,000 for St Mirren midfielder Caolan Boyd-Munce turned down, according to Sky Sports News reporter Anthony Joseph.
The 24-year-old has been with the Buddies since March last year and triggered an extension to his contract during the previous campaign, which has seen his deal lengthen until the summer of 2025.
The Saints are said to want to extend that deal even further after a string of top performances during his time with the club, as the former Middlesbrough man helped them finish in fifth spot in the Scottish Premiership last season.
Boyd-Munce featured in 35 top flight matches for his side in the 23/24 campaign, as well as getting international recognition with Northern Ireland.
Orient have reportedly seen a £175,000 bid rejected for the midfielder and suggestions are that the Scottish club are keen to tie him down to a new deal in the hope of keeping hold of him.
Boyd-Munce may be a name familiar with many EFL fans, having come up through the ranks at Birmingham City in his youth, although he only managed to feature in seven league appearances for the Blues before departing the club.
The midfielder made the move to the North East in the January transfer window of 2022, as he joined fellow Championship outfit Middlesbrough, although once again he found game time hard to come by at The Riverside.
After making just two substitute appearances in the second tier during his time with Boro, Boyd-Munce then moved north of the border to join St Mirren in March 2023, as he looked to kickstart his career in the Scottish Premiership.
Despite being rumoured to have interest from Championship and League One clubs at the time, the Northern Irishman kicked on once he made the move to St Mirren Park, with the last 12 months proving to be something of a breakthrough year for the midfielder.
The midfielder was absent from his side’s pre-season test at the weekend against Dunfermline, with boss Stephen Robinson claiming he had blisters on his feet so was unable to perform.
Richie Wellens has already been busy in the transfer market this summer, with the O’s boss looking to build on an impressive return to the third tier in the previous campaign.
Having finished in the top half of the table after winning the League Two title in the season before, the former Doncaster Rovers boss [pictured] has added tricky winger Diallang Jaiyesimi to his squad this summer, after the 26-year-old’s departure from Charlton Athletic.
Striker Sonny Perkins has also joined the club from Leeds United on a season-long loan deal, while fellow frontman Charlie Kelman will return to the club for another season, having been borrowed from Queens Park Rangers for a second successive year.
Orient will be ruing the loss of striker Ruel Sotiriou this summer, who has joined League One rivals Bristol Rovers after his contract at Brisbane Road expired, while Idris El Mizouni won’t be returning for a third loan spell at the club, with a move to Oxford United set to be wrapped up.
Boyd-Munce could be seen as the man to replace the Tunisian in the centre of the park for the upcoming campaign, as Wellens looks for another player able to dictate games in the middle of the park.
