As reported by Kicker, St. Pauli will be without club captain Jackson Irvine for the remainder of the season.

The central midfielder suffered a foot strain after their crucial 1-2 away at Holstein Kiel. The win has taken Pauli one step closer to securing Bundesliga safety; they’re now seven points clear of 16th and nine clear of automatic relegation.

The club hasn’t provided any additional information regarding the Australian international’s injury but describe the absence as “for the time being.” With five weeks remaining in the season, it’s likely that this means the remainder of the campaign.

Irvine has played every minute of every 29 Bundesliga matches so far this season, and this latest injury is hitting head coach Alexander Blessin hard.

Blessin has already had to deal with ample injuries this season, including top signing James Sands (broken fibula), Karol Mets (knee), and more.

Irvine is likely to be replaced by fellow countryman Connor Metcalfe, who himself has only just returned from injury.
