By virtue of Ruch Chorzów’s goalless draw at Wisła Puławy, Stal Rzeszów were promoted to the Polish I Liga. The Biało-niebiescy return to the second tier after an absence of 28 years!
Stal themselves earned a 3-3 draw against Hutnik Kraków on Wednesday evening, in a game which kicked off an hour after their promotion rivals’ match in Puławy. Ruch’s goalless draw mean that the 1975 Puchar Polski winners had already assured promotion, regardless of their own result.
With four rounds left to play, Ruch’s draw left them 11 points behind the II Liga leaders; but with Stal’s penultimate fixture scheduled against GKS Bełchatów – who have withdrawn from the competition – it left the Silesian side unable to catch them.
Guaranteed to finish the season on at least 72 points, now only 2nd-placed Chojniczanka Chojnice can usurp them. Taking into account Stal’s guaranteed walkover, they effectively sit 8 points behind, leaving Stal needing 4 points from their remaining three games to secure the title.
