Standard Liege have announced that they have picked up the purchase option on striker Dennis Eckert Ayensa. The forward has been on loan at the club from fellow Pro League side Union St Gilloise. He has signed a contract with the club that will run until 2028.

Despite a strong start to the 2023/2024 season, Ayensa found himself on the fringes of the squad at Union with the emergence of Mohamed Amoura and Gustaf Nilsson. Despite both players departing in the summer, Ayensa was still seen as a back up forward. Standard gave him the opportunity to play regular football, given they were in desperate need of a forward. So far this season, the German striker has scored seven goals in 25 games, closing in on his 11 goals in 44 games from two seasons ago. Prior to joining Union, Eckert spent three seasons in Germany playing for Ingolstadt.

Standard will hope that the forward can help them push for top spot in the play-offs a chance of European football. The winner of play-off two will face either the team that finishes fourth or fifth in play-off one, depending on who wins the Cup and where they finish.
