Bob Faesen has given an update on the current situation surrounding the sale of Standard Liege. 777 Partners have decided to sell Standard and a number of their other clubs this summer, but the process is slow going. Faesen is reporting that it is highly unlikely that a new owner will be in place by the end of the summer. The positive news for Standard fans is that there are a number of interested parties that are keen to take the club away from 777.
Fans of the club certainly won’t look back over this period of American ownership with much fondness. The side under Ronny Deila in the first year punched above their weight, and last season they were back to where many felt that squad should have been. Multiple transfer bans during the period has not helped the image of the owners as having the sides best interests at heart. So far this season they have only spent money on one player, with the rest being loanees and free agents. Standard lost a number of players at the end of their contracts this summer and are looking to sell in order to bring in new signings.
