Things can change very quickly in football. Brennan Johnson is currently enjoying a real purple patch for Tottenham, a goalscoring glut that has arrived just weeks after the Welshman was targeted by online trolls.
Johnson deactivated his social media accounts in the wake of online abuse that followed Tottenham’s defeat in the North London Derby on September 15th.
Since then, the 23-year-old has been in electric form with Johnson’s opener against Brighton on Sunday his sixth goal in six games.
The winger has scored in each of his last six appearances for Spurs, finding the net against Coventry, Brentford, Qarabag, Manchester United, Ferencvaros and Brighton.
He’s the first Tottenham player since Harry Kane in January 2019 to score in six straight games, while he’s now netted more goals in those six games (6) than he did across his entire debut season with the North Londoners (5).
From much maligned to man in red-hot form, it’s been a terrific turnaround for Johnson in recent weeks.
