Andy Morrison says Manchester City’s togetherness will be crucial in turning our fortunes around.
The Club’s former captain issued the rallying call during our latest Matchday Live broadcast where he and fellow guest Keith Curle dissected Pep Guardiola’s side’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
Despite Phil Foden striking late on, goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers either side of half-time helped the hosts to three points at Villa Park.
It meant a threadbare Blues squad’s difficult run of results continued as key players such as Rodri, Ruben Dias and Ederson remain on the sidelines through injury.
And Morrison believes the only way back into form is by sticking to the principles which have laid the foundations for sparkling success under Guardiola.
“It’s obviously a difficult moment,” he said.
“I don’t think you can attempt to sugar coat it over and look at positives, there are little positives and that’s where we’re at.
“It’s too easy then to look after yourself and keeping your head down. You need people to be strong now. You must stick together, you must stay strong together and wait for it to turn.
“And it will turn. It has to because this is something these players and this management have never experienced.
“Stay strong, stay together and work your way through it.”
Foden’s late finish at Villa Park represented his first Premier League goal of the season and his fourth in all competitions this term.
It ended a run of six games without finding the net as he collected the ball inside the hosts’ box and fired past Emi Martinez.
And Morrison is backing the 2023/24 PFA Players’ Player of the Year to consistently find form in front of goal as a result.
He added: “[A positive is] Phil scoring the goal which ends that run [of not scoring].
“He is a player who does score in batches, it always follows another one. When he scores one, in the next game he may get a brace.
“I think breaking that little duck is a big positive.”
