Former French international and Ligue 1 goalkeeper Stéphane Ruffier will be present in court today with representatives of his former club St Étienne, as reported by Ouest France.

Having been made redundant in January last year by Les Verts, Ruffier announced that he would be taking the club to court last October.

Today, both parties have been asked to defend their arguments and provide evidence for them. Ruffier is looking for €5 million in compensation for the loss of professional opportunities.

Having been released after 383 games and a Coupe de la Ligue with the club, Ruffier retired from playing and is now a goalkeeping coach with fifth-tier side Aviron Bayonnais.

St Étienne’s 10th most capped player will not hear the verdict of the case until next July, according to France Bleu Saint-Étienne.
