Los Rojiblancos got off to the ideal start at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc when Isaác Brizuela opened the scoring in just the sixth minute.

The veteran winger pounced on a poor clearance by George Corral before drilling a daisy cutter past the outstretched hand of Antony Silva.

Puebla got a huge break when they were awarded a penalty after winger Maximiliano Araújo was crudely hacked down by Gilberto Sepúlveda.

Referee Marco Antonio Ortíz pointed to the spot and declined to review the decision despite replays showing contact was made outside the area before momentum brought both players over the 18-yard line.

Alejandro Tabó lashed his spot kick down the middle, narrowly past the diving body of Raúl Gudiño.

Brizuela turned provider for the Flock’s second, floating a cross in that found left-back Mayorga completely unmarked to head home from close range.

It looked like that would be the winner until Lucas Maia glanced Araújo’s corner a minute from time to send the tie to a shootout.

Both sides converted four of their regulation five penalties, with the game finally being decided in sudden death when Silva repelled Mayorga’s effort.
