Sunderland announce 15-player retained list | OneFootball

Sunderland have revealed the news that 15 members of their 2023/2024 squad are contracted to the club for the upcoming season.

The Lady Black Cats announced their retained list via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Sunderland have confirmed that Megan Borthwick, Jessica Brown, Libbi McInnes, Emily Scarr, Mary McAteer, Grace Ede, Katy Watson, Louise Griffiths, Natasha Fenton, Megan Beer, Jenna Dear, Brianna Westrup, Katie Kitching, Amy Goddard and Ellen Jones are all onboard for the 2024/2025 campaign.

The Wearside club have also brought two new faces in with goalkeeper Demi Lambourne and midfielder Eleanor Dale having joined the club in recent weeks.

At the end of last season, Sunderland manager Melanie Reay said that she was keen to hold onto the vast majority of her squad and today’s announcement is evidence that she has got her wish. The Lady Black Cats have lost the Barclays Women’s Championship’s 2023/2024 Player of the Season and Golden Glove winner in Claudia Moan but recent signing Lambourne looks to be an excellent replacement.

Sunderland were in the thick of the Barclays Women’s Championship’s promotion race last season. The Lady Black Cats pushed their title rivals all the way before eventually ending the campaign in third position. Sunderland will be hoping to go one better this season and win back their place in the top tier.
