The Head Coach stating (see below) that the expectation is that Sven Botman will be back in around eight weeks.

So it is hoped and expected he will be able to play again this season, with the match schedule suggesting he could be back for the four Premier League matches in May.

“Sven, we have been trying to get him back to full fitness, he was very close to the Brighton game but the day before he felt something again in his knee. This week he has had the same discomfort so it looks like he will have to have an operation.

He needs a small operation to clear out some fluid and then he should be fine again. We hope he should be back in about eight weeks.”

The Dutch defender came back and was especially magnificent in the two Arsenal semi-final matches that got United to Wembley.

Two clean sheets and Newcastle United winning 4-0 on aggregate, although that second leg at St James’ Park proved to be Botman’s final game ahead of this latest surgery, Sven Botman forced off in the 80th minute on 5 February 2025.

Now Sven Botman has followed up that Eddie Howe press conference and via his social media given this emotional personal message to the Newcastle United fans:

“Frustrating times for me and the club as I have to proceed a small surgery.

“I’ll give 100% as always to get back ASAP.

“The team needs the full support to bring the cup to Newcastle and finish strong in the league.

“See you soon Mags.”
