Lazio extended their positive run as they shrugged aside their hosts Como on the back of a commanding display.
The encounter started at a slow pace with few chances on either side. But the floodgates opened in the 28th minute when Taty Castellanos directed his header toward the mouth of the goal and hit the arm of Alberto Dossena. The Argentine stepped up for spot-kick duty and managed to send Emil Audero in the wrong direction to break the deadlock.
A few minutes later, the Aquile doubled their lead through Pedro. Gustav Isaksen switched the play to the left with an exquisite ball that found Nuno Tavares. The Portuguese earned his customary assist by picking up the Spanish veteran in the box, and the latter found the bottom corner with a clinical finish.
Nevertheless, Como managed to reduce the deficit at the start of the second half with a jaw-dropping strike from Luca Mazzitelli. The former Frosinone man shielded the ball from Patric before finding the back of the net with a sensational acrobatic effort from an acute angle.
Matthias Braunoder and Tavares earned their second yellow cards in the space of three minutes, so both teams were reduced to ten men. But while Como were wasteful in front of goal, Lazio managed to add three goals, beginning with a corner kick that was redirected by Boulaye Dia’s header towards Patric who managed to nod it home at the back post.
In the 81st minute, Castellanos finished off a neat passage of play to complete his brace, while the returning Manuel Lazzari led a last-minute counter-attack that allowed Loum Tchaouna to open his Lazio account.
With this comprehensive victory, Lazio have now climbed to fifth place in the Serie A table after overtaking Juventus who dropped points against Parma.
