Now that Ruben Amorim has officially taken the reins and got to work at Carrington, he’ll be well aware of the countless pivotal decisions that he’s to make before the January window.

One report over the past fortnight had already detailed how the head coach will be asked for his verdict on the sextet of players who are out of contract next summer: Amad Diallo, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen are all poised to leave Old Trafford in June 2025, as it stands.

That being said, Maguire and Amad do have one-year options included in their current terms, which could well be activated in the coming weeks. Amad, in particular, is expected to stay following a scintillating start to the campaign and is likely to be offered an improved deal altogether.

Elsewhere, Antony is said to be planning showdown talks with club chiefs regarding his future in Manchester.

The Brazilian, according to UtdDistrict, is ‘not currently happy’ with the minutes he’s been granted since 2024/2025 got underway, having made only two Premier League appearances in the opening 11 matches.

Despite being signed by Erik ten Hag for a ludicrous £86 million in 2022, Antony played a total of 27 minutes in the final seven league matches of the Dutchman’s tenure. He did not feature at all throughout Ruud van Nistelrooy’s interim spell.

Antony’s only goal thus far came from the penalty spot in September’s 7-0 thrashing over Barnsley – a third-round Carabao Cup tie. Across the entirety of 2023/2024, he returned merely three goals and two assists in 38 appearances, with just one of those goals coming in the Premier League.

UtdDistrict’s report adds that the 24-year-old ‘will look for an exit’ unless his game time increases considerably under Amorim. Realistically speaking, Antony is highly unlikely to play an integral role in the new era.

An initial loan departure in January to drive up his transfer value followed by a permanent sale at the end of the season may be the best solution for all parties – although, one thing’s for sure: United will recuperate nowhere near the absurd fee they forked out for him.
