Hibs striker Mykola Kuharevich scored the first goal against Celtic in a competitive match this season, much to the annoyance of Celtic’s Big Strong Man Cameron Carter-Vickers…

The American international defender conceded the free kick that led to Hibs pulling a goal back after a Daizen Maeda double had given Celtic an early two-goal advantage in the League Cup tie at a packed Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

“Yeah, it is annoying to concede, CCV said afterwards, as reported by Daily Record. “Maybe Hibs had a few half-chances, but apart from that I don’t think they had too much from open play. It’s definitely annoying to concede from a set-piece, but again, it’s something we can look at. I think normally set-pieces are easily corrected, so it’s something we can definitely look at and improve on.”

This is of course the second season of CCV’s central defensive partnership with Ireland defender Liam Scales and the American reckons that there’s clear progress being made as the pairing build up their on-field relationship.

“Like I said last year, any partnership, especially defensive partnerships, takes time to learn each other’s games. Things then become a bit more instinctive instead of waiting. I think that’s definitely happened with me and Scalesy. So far this season it’s gone well, and hopefully that continues.

“It’s always hard to compare different teams, different seasons. But like I said, it’s just about that constant want to improve and work with each other and understand each other more, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

The CCV/Scales pairing may be the same but there of course has been major change behind them with Kasper Schmeichel replacing Joe Hart between the sticks. That though has been a seamless transition for the Celtic central defensive pairing, given the quality of Joe Hart’s replacement.

“Kasper’s been really good. I think from the minute he came in, you saw his quality,” CCV said. “I think it’s clear to see that on the ball, he can play with the ball at his feet.

“He probably hasn’t had to make many big saves yet in the league or the cup game, but I think you saw in pre-season some of the saves he made were unbelievable, so I’m definitely enjoying playing with him and looking forward to keeping playing with him.”
