We take a look at the players who could depart The Den in January

It's been a mixed bag for Millwall so far this season, and while it's been an improvement from the previous campaign, it's not been anything to write home about for The Den faithful.

Neil Harris' side are struggling for consistency, with a poor defeat away to basement boys Cardiff City following an impressive 3-1 win over Preston just three days prior, summing up their start to the season.

However, if their start is anything to go by, they'll avoid relegation comfortably this season, which wasn't the case last year when an impressive late run of form saw them fly up the Championship table to avoid the drop, but it could have been so different for the Lions.

It feels like the season has only just started, but we're in October now, and the January transfer window will be here before we know it, and there's no doubt a number of players planning their futures away from The Den.

With that in mind, here are the players who we can see leaving in January, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis.

Connal Trueman

Third choice goalkeeper Connal Trueman joined the Lions back in the summer of 2022, but he's still yet to make his first-team bow for Harris' side.

The former Birmingham City man sees his contract at Millwall expire in the summer, and he could be looking for an early escape in January in a bid to play football on a regular basis.

Trueman isn't a youngster, he's 28, and being third choice at Millwall perhaps isn't what he'll want at this stage of his career, and a move away from The Den would allow him to play first-team football on a regular basis, and he could be willing to drop down a division or two to do so.

Wes Harding

Defender Wes Harding joined Millwall from Rotherham United in the summer of 2023, but has struggled for regular playing time, making 26 appearances last season, but has fallen right down the pecking order since Harris was appointed.

Minutes have been extremely hard to come by this season, and with plenty of Championship experience under his belt thanks to spells at both Rotherham United and Birmingham City, it wouldn't be surprised if he was on the move in January, whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis.

The 27-year-old will have been frustrated with his lack of minutes since Harris' appointment, and he'll surely be looking for an escape route in January unless things change drastically in the near future.

Murray Wallace

Murray Wallace is a Millwall cult-hero, but he's found it difficult to break into Harris' starting Championship starting XI this season, and has fallen down the pecking order.

He made his 2024/25 Championship debut off the bench against Preston, coming on in the 89th minute, and the fact that his first game of the season has come seven games in suggests that he's a player that will certainly struggle for minutes this season.

He started the Lions 1-0 loss to Leyton Orient in the EFL Cup, which would have done him no favours in terms of staking a claim for a Championship starting berth going forward, and while he's been an excellent servant for the club, making over 200 appearances since joining in 2018, time waits for no man in football, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he departed in January.

Harris will be fully aware of what the Scotsman is capable of having brought him to the club in 2018 and working with him previously, but perhaps January is the perfect time for the 31-year-old to cut ties with the club.

Daniel Kelly

Summer signing Daniel Kelly has struggled for first-team minutes so far at The Den, and a January loan move to a club in either League One or League Two could be the perfect way to help develop him.

The 18-year-old joined from Celtic and made his Millwall debut in the EFL Cup tie with Leyton Orient, but looks set to struggle for regular league minutes, perhaps understandable given his age.

Kelly is highly-rated and could be set for a big future at the club, so a January loan move could be the perfect way to allow him to get regular football under his belt and could mean that he comes back next summer a better player, ready to challenge for a place in Millwall's starting XI.
