However, the Blues haven’t been as busy as expected, although they could make movements in the final week as they look to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Chelsea have high hopes for both Jorgensen and Penders

The Blues are looking to strengthen their attacking options and are believed to be in pole position to sign Liam Delap, although that’s more likely to happen in the summer.

There have been calls from supporters to sign a new goalkeeper given the current form of Robert Sanchez, with the Spain international booed by Chelsea fans after making another costly error against Manchester City on Saturday evening.

Maresca has publicly defended the 27-year-old on a number of occasions this season, but has recently acknowledged the former Brighton man has to do much better.

Chelsea made the decision to have Sanchez as the number one last summer despite being out performed by Djordje Petrovic last season, whilst the Blues also signed Jorgensen from Villarreal.

Many fans would like a new goalkeeper, but The Athletic have reported that’s unlikely to happen this month, given how the Blues view Jorgensen and Penders.

The report states Chelsea have high hopes for the pair so are unlikely to sign another goalkeeper in January, despite the form of Sanchez.

Maresca must surely be thinking about replacing Sanchez with Jorgensen, who has made two Premier League appearances this season, whilst he is the club’s Conference League keeper and made history against Heidenheim.

Quite what it will take for Sanchez to be dropped remains to be seen, with ESPN pundit Julien Laurens questioning how Chelsea can be a serious club with the Spaniard in goal, but keeping faith in him could prove costly as the Blues look to qualify for the Champions League.
