There was another slate of Friday NWSL games. Let’s dig into what went down.
In what turned out to be the evening’s first game, North Carolina Courage dispatched the Utah Royals thanks to a late Kaleigh Kurtz goal. Utah did not manage a shot on target all night.
Elsewhere, after going down inside the opening 25 minutes, Bay FC fought back to earn a much-needed win over San Diego thanks to a Hanna Lundkvist own-goal in the dying minutes.
After a nearly two hour weather delay in Houston, Portland remained red-hot with a comfortable win over the Dash.
The cross, the finish. What a way to find the leveler.
Adored by the Portland locals, represented by a global cast of players.
The Courage snapped a three-game losing skid to get a little bit of breathing room in the playoff picture, but they could fall to as low as ninth before the end of the weekend. Meanwhile, it’s yet another loss for Utah who are the league’s basement dwellers with just one win in 11 games.
Bay FC snapped a five-game losing streak after earning all three points against San Diego, and could feasibly begin to turn things around. The Wave, however, have struggled to find consistency but do remain in the top-nine.
Portland’s win in Houston means the Thorns have secured victory in six straight games as they race towards the top of the table at full-speed.
There are four more games this weekend, the most notable of which will come on Sunday when Orlando looks to keep their superb winning run alive against a struggling Seattle side.
