The Premier League has admitted there have been four incorrect VAR decisions this season.
They also say there have been a further nine “missed VAR interventions”, where they should have got involved to influence a decision but did not, according to the competition’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel.
The KMI panel is made up of three former players or managers, alongside a specialist from the Premier League and one from the PGMOL.
The league says the accuracy of ‘Key Match Incidents’ is at 96.4% – up from 95.7% at the same time last season.
VAR has also intervened more times than last season, 70 times compared to 61 at the same point during the previous campaign.
The Premier League did not list the nine missed interventions, however.
Here’s the decisions that they have announced were incorrect…
Outtara ‘handball’ – Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle, 25 August
Bournemouth’s Dango Outtara thought he had scored the winner for his side and the goal was given by referee David Coote but he was advised to change his decision because of a handball. VAR Tim Robinson decided it was a “factual handball” but it was in fact not.
De Ligt’s penalty foul on Ings West Ham 2-1 Man Utd, 27 October
In Erik ten Hag’s last game in charge of Man Utd, his side were dealt another crushing blow when Coote was advised by VAR Michael Oliver to review a challenge from Mathjis de Ligt on Danny Ings in the penalty area, and a spot-kick was subsequently awarded, which was the wrong decision.
Norgaard red card – Brentford 0-0 Everton, 23 November
Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard was sent off for a challenge on Jordan Pickford while attempting to score. The decision was later reversed, however, and Norgaard did not serve a suspension.
Milenkovic goal disallowed – Nottingham Forest 3-2 Southampton, 19 January
Nikola Milenkovic’s goal was incorrectly disallowed when Chris Wood was wrongly deemed to have been interfering with play from an offside position.
