The global media are raving about Rangers’ John Souttar | OneFootball

After yet another sterling performance for his country, John ‘Soapy’ Souttar and his winning assist not to mention goal-saving tackle have earned him rave reviews globally, as once again Rangers’ stalwart defender shone for Scotland and proved his doubters more and more wrong about him.

Souttar has taken a very, very long time to start to become the defender he was meant to be, and as he turns 28, it’s becoming abundantly clear that his doubters were very wrong about him.

Ibrox Noise was a little on the fence here – we didn’t see him as a truly Rangers class defender like a Weir or a Cuellar, but we were big backers of him and didn’t dismiss him in the way the masses have many times.

It’s taken a couple of stunning MOTM performances for his country for Souttar to finally gain the recognition he has always deserved, and it’s safe to say he’s exceeded even Ibrox Noise’s expectations of his potential.

We didn’t see him going into Weir territory, but while he’s a very different defender to Rangers’ ex-stopper, he’s hitting that kind of level these day and has become completely undroppable at Ibrox, and now for Scotland too.

It’s the least the lad deserves – so many fans have been quick to write him off, but global reaction to his outstanding performance v Croatia then of course the stellar one v Poland has seen his stock rise and fan favour towards him spike massively.

He is finally being seen as a serious good defender, Scotland’s best by many – Ibrox Noise did always feel he was Scotland’s best defender, even if he wasn’t classic ‘Rangers class’. He’s starting now to look like he’s into Rangers class territory.

Is he Richard Gough or Terry Butcher – well he plays a bit like Terry in truth, but the reality is measuring now with 30 years in the past is a bit tough.

All we know is he’s now the toast of Scotland, and we duly believe he will follow that up with continued consistent displays for Rangers too.
