Celtic related news from Italy from yesterday as Liam Henderson came off the bench with his Lecce side trialling 0-1 to Vicenza. The former Celtic midfielder came on in the 67th minute and had an immediate positive impact for Lecce with not one but two quick-fire assists on the 69th and 72nd minute to secure a 2-1 win. Outstanding from Henderson who has certainly managed to make a decent career for himself in Italian football after a frustrating period at Celtic where he struggled to get game time.
Liam’s younger brother Ewan is experiencing similar frustrations at Celtic. Having broken into the Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side in January and February 2019 he really looked the part. However the Celtic manager then conducted his midnight flit heading off to Leicester City after a power-struggle with Peter Lawwell and the youngster dropped out of the picture as Neil Lennon set about completing the task of winning the league and defending the Scottish Cup for a third consecutive season.
It wasn’t until Jeremie Frimpong was injured in the dead rubber Europa League match against French high-flyers Lille at Celtic Park a few weeks ago that Ewan Henderson – who had previously been sent out on loan to Ross County by Lennon – was given his chance by the Celtic manager and he looked outstanding.
Liam’s found his way in the game away from Celtic, hopefully his younger brother Ewan will make the breakthrough at the club and few would argue that he deserves the chance to prove himself.
