Galeno – Porto to Al-Ahli (€50m)

Porto brought in over €110m during the January transfer window as the Portuguese side cashed in on key figures. With the Primeira Liga title race getting away from Porto, the club decided to bank some funds for future investment.

A big bid from Saudi Arabia persuaded the Portuguese side to sell Galeno, who links up with Al-Ahli in the Middle East. The Brazil international caught the eye in last season’s Champions League, where he recorded eight goal involvements in seven games. This season, the 27-year-old has scored eight times in 17 league starts.

Roberto Firmino and Ivan Toney are among his new teammates at The Royals.

Xavi Simons – Paris Saint-Germain to RB Leipzig (€50m)

After 18 months on loan at Leipzig, the German side secured the permanent signing of Xavi Simons from PSG. It’s a club-record investment for Leipzig, who have paid an initial €50m plus bonuses for the Dutch international.

Simons starred for the Bundesliga outfit last season, scoring 10 times and providing 15 assists to earn inclusion in Germany’s Team of the Year. Still just 21, Leipzig hope to build a dynamic young team around the midfielder.

Nico Gonzalez – Porto to Manchester City (€60m)

Pep Guardiola addressed the gaping holes in his midfield late in the transfer window. A deadline-day deal for Nico Gonzalez adds freshness to an engine room that has struggled in the absence of Rodri.

Gonzalez came through the ranks at Barcelona before excelling following a transfer to Porto. This season, the 23-year-old has five goals and three assists from 17 league appearances. A big presence with good aerial ability, he could be a much-needed solution to the club’s Rodri void.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain (€70m)

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has long been backed for a big move to a financial superpower and secured a €70m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in January. The Georgian was the driving force in Napoli’s drought-breaking title success in 2022/23, where he led the league for assists to earn the division’s Most Valuable Player award.

Despite Napoli leading the title race again this season, Kvaratskhelia has opted to depart mid-season. The 23-year-old could become the face of a Paris Saint-Germain project that lost Kylian Mbappe last summer.

Omar Marmoush – Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City (€75m)

Manchester City spent big to land Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt. The forward arrived at the Etihad after a spectacular six months in the Bundesliga.

After an encouraging first season with Frankfurt last term, Marmoush exploded in output this time around. He scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in just 26 appearances, persuading the Premier League champions to invest.

Having failed to replace Julian Alvarez last summer, the Citizens now have an ideal complement and cover for Erling Haaland.

Jhon Duran – Aston Villa to Al Nassr (€77m)

Jhon Duran was the most expensive transfer of the January transfer window after leaving the Premier League for Saudi Arabia.

Unhappy with playing second-fiddle to Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa, Duran departed for a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. The 21-year-old will link up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, who are fourth in the Pro League and bidding to close the gap on champions Al-Hilal.

Duran boasts a record of a goal every 86.9 minutes over the first half of the season.
