Manchester City and Belgium superstar Kevin De Bruyne has commented on the subject of his club level future whilst at the European Championships in Germany.

Questions surrounding the legendary playmaker’s future come after a combination of factors intensify during the opening weeks of the 2024 summer transfer window, both in terms of potential interest from abroad and his contractual situation at the Etihad Stadium.

Saudi Arabian football bosses are widely understood to be intent on making the veteran Premier League icon their next big-money investment, viewing his potential impact in the middle-eastern Pro League as ‘transformational’ in some quarters.

Major League Soccer also retain a watchful eye on De Bruyne’s Manchester City future and his ongoing contract situation, with the midfielder having just 12 months remaining on his current agreement with the Premier League champions.

However, despite the chaos that is continuing to swirl in football media, De Bruyne himself is cutting a very relaxed figure when discussing the matter publicly, offering his latest insight whilst in Germany this week.

Speaking as per comments relayed by HLN’s Kristof Terreur, De Bruyne has revealed that he expects to hold conversations with Manchester City on the subject of his future and Etihad Stadium contract over the summer months.

“I’ll have a quiet summer,” the 33-year-old began, as Belgium take on France in the last-16 of the ongoing European Championships. “I’ll enjoy my holidays and will return to (Manchester) City afterwards. I assume there will be talks with City in the upcoming months.”

Additional comments provided by Het Nieuwsblad went on to clarify De Bruyne’s stance on his Manchester City future, after the Belgium captain responded, “Yes, on the subject of whether he will remain at the Etihad Stadium beyond the ongoing summer transfer window.

“I’ve read a lot of headlines about a transfer, but I haven’t spoken to anyone. I saw him [Michael Emanalo, Saudi Pro League Sporting Director] at the Club World Cup. I know Michael – then it makes sense for us to have a chat. But it wasn’t about that.

“It’s hard to say now [what he will do after leaving City]. We will be sitting around the table in the coming months. I signed my contract at the right time. If there is a good offer and you tell Pep that you want to leave, that is possible.

“This may be different at other clubs. But I have never indicated that I want to leave. I have more than enough money. But if an absurd amount comes… That is also for my family, my relatives, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren and my friends.”

Kevin De Bruyne may have a longer summer break than desired now after Belgium’s disappointing exit from the 2024 European Championships, exiting the tournament at the last-16 stage through a 1-0 defeat to France.

Manchester City are expected to return for pre-season training and preparations for their tour of the United States in mid-July, although those performing in the knock-out stages of the Euros in Germany are expected to arrive for Etihad duties much later into the summer.
