FC Barcelona once again showed their character and commitment to keep on fighting for everything till the very last moments as they overcame a significant challenge from Atletico Madrid last night.

The Blaugranes found themselves trailing by 2 goals in the 70th minute against one of their direct title contenders, but in the last phase of the game, turned things around to win the match 2-4.

While this was a heroic performance from the Catalans, there is no doubt that this game would go down as a failure for the Colchoneros, who were unable to take advantage of their very favorable position in this match.

However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, Diego Simeone appeared before the press after the game to explain why his team was unable to get a win.

The Argentine coach congratulated Barcelona for this win:

“Congratulations to the opponent for their decisiveness in key moments of the match. Our second goal didn’t last at all.”

“The 2-1 gave Barcelona energy, confidence, and more attacking play, and in some counterattacks, we had the chance to manage it better, but it remained just an intention because we didn’t choose the final pass well. The 3-2 came from a fortunate shot, which is part of the game. We won and drew in Barcelona, and today the coin flipped in their favor.”

The Atletico Madrid coach also reflected on how Lewandowski’s goal affected his team:

“We didn’t defend well at the start of their play to stay strong. They scored a great goal, and it hurt us, putting us in a situation of doubt. They have a very good team and play well. We competed well with our strengths, and that’s the positive takeaway.”

Simeone also hailed the Blaugrana team’s ability to come up with different solutions to get goals:

“Barcelona, as I already said, is the team that plays the best as a unit and has great individual talents due to their hierarchy. Half of their goals have come from crosses. They have good solutions.”

It must have been a difficult night for Simeone, so it is quite good to see him congratulate Barcelona and admit the deficiencies in his team’s performance. Despite this setback, Atletico Madrid still remain in the race for the title, and will be looking to turn things around soon after a horrible last week.
