Pierre Emerick Aubameyang was reported to be away on holiday on last Tuesday, then he flew out on Wednesday only for conflicting reports to claim he was on-route back to the UK. In fact, travel plans appear to be as complicated as putting a signature on the contract extension when it comes to Aubameyang but surely, that’s the Arsenal way these days.
Despite Managing Director Vinai Venkatesham’s statement on open communication with supporters which said:
“I think we can do a better job of communicating with our fans.”
The confusion in regards to Aubameyang putting his signature on the contract extension, seemed as confused as his statement on transparency. He added:
“We’re not going to be able to give them (The Fans) a running commentary of everything that we’re doing, nor are we always going to correct or be able to correct some of the misinformation there is about the club.”
Surely, he meant the lack of information, especially on such a massive deal. Some supporters are chewing their nails down to their elbows but rest assured, the upshot is that the deal is done and that the big, belated reveal, which was tentatively penned in for the previous week, will now probably take place this week.
Arsenal have only one way of conducting their business and that’s in a soundproof room with the lights off. It’s always been a bit ‘Bourne Identity’. The Gunners may be a man down but at least, they are consistent with their mixed messages and old fashioned tight-lipped approach.
In the event of the hasty departure of Raul Sanllehi, it’s very much business as usual at the Emirates as they try to fathom out how to turn average players into saleable commodities to rebuild the squad. There are deals to be concluded involving at least three first-team players and the race to be the first one out of the door is thought to be between Sokratis and Guendouzi.
Guendouzi has several suitors interested in his talents and Sokratis was said to be on Roma’s radar as per Corriere Dello Sport via Sport Witness, but there are also rumours that he wants to remain. Fulham are said to be keen on Callum Chambers and Rob Holding would generate considerable interest if Arsenal decided to trim their overloaded stock of defenders.
But for now, if anyone spots Aubameyang, can they remind him that he has a document to sign so that we can stop tuning into Sky Sports News and resume our everyday lives.
