Liverpool are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 11 games in 2024-25, with fourth-placed Arsenal nine points behind them, and Ian Wright sees them winning the title if they continue playing this way. The Reds have lost one game and drawn another one so far, winning the remaining nine, while the Gunners have won five games, drawn four and lost two. Not many tipped Liverpool to challenge for the title this season after Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as many, with Arsenal and Manchester City widely expected to go head-to-head for it again having finished in the top-two in each of the last two seasons.
However, the Anfield club are slowly starting to look like the real deal this season, and Wright believes they have what it takes to go all the way.
“They have got the kind of quality, that on the break, bam, you’re in trouble,” he said on the latest episode of Wrighty’s House.
“They look very calm, the manager is calm, they seem to be playing a lot more football that when the opportunity comes to break, they break very very well.
“They are taking it one game at a time, which is perfect. If they continue doing that, they will win the league, as simple as that. If they continue doing that, they will win the league. So, it’s up to people to try and catch them.”
Liverpool have been brilliant at both ends of the pitch, scoring 21 goals so far (the second-highest) and conceding just six (the lowest). On the other hand, Arsenal have shipped 12 goals while Man City have leaked 13 goals, and their defensive shortcomings could see them struggle to pip the Reds to the title going forward.
The likes of Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, Luis Diaz and Virgil van Dijk have been on top of their game this term, and it is hard to see them and their teammates dropping their standard anytime soon.
There are still 27 games left in the campaign, and it is too early to predict who will win the title, but Liverpool are threatening to run away with it, and both Arsenal and Man City have to respond after the international break if they are serious about challenging them for it.
