Flamengo on-loan midfielder Thiago Maia is now set to miss at least eight months after undergoing successful knee surgery.
Though the 23-year-old suffered the injury back on 14 November against Atlético-GO, the procedure was only completed this week as doctors from parent club Lille needed to come to Rio de Janeiro to evaluate the player.
On Friday, Flamengo doctor Márcio Tannure discussed the surgery.
“The athlete Thiago Maia underwent surgery today at Hospital Samaritano Barra to reconstruct the ligaments of his left knee,” he began.
“The surgery was performed by Dr. Max Ramos, he is with me, and everything went as expected.
“As we had already talked about, it is a serious injury, considered complex, where we did the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and also what we call the posterolateral corner.
“He will be discharged from the hospital on Saturday, if all goes well, and initially the first week will remain at home, cared for by the medical department of the club, and after that week, everything is going well, physiotherapy will start.”
Thiago Maia’s loan contract with Flamengo ends in the middle of 2021. However, the rubro-negro board has is already planning to extend his loan by another season.
