Looking at this Newcastle team v Wolves.

Eddie Howe and his players looking to follow up their seven points from a possible nine in the Premier League (plus progress in the Carabao Cup), with another three points this afternoon.

Newcastle United looking to carry on their unbeaten run/winning form after the international break, as they now face three away matches (all competitions) in a row.

So what can we expect the Newcastle team v Wolves to be?

As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Tottenham:

Pope, Livramento, Krafth, Burn, Kelly, Joelinton, Bruno, Longstaff, Barnes, Isak, Gordon

Eddie Howe gave an injury and availability update on Friday morning.

Callum Wilson taking a bit longer to return than expected from his back injury and not available for this one, whilst the longer-term injured trio of Botman, Lascelles and Lewis Miley are all still on the recovery trail as well.

Up until Friday at least, Joe Willock had been training with the group but not fully participating in all of the training, according to Eddie Howe.

I am guessing even if he has stepped up his training these past couple of days, the Head Coach will only consider Willock for the bench at best.

In better news, Eddie Howe reporting no new injuries from those on international duty.

Whilst today’s game sees Fabian Schar available again after his three match suspension.

Anyway, my take on all of this after the above, my best guesstimate of the Newcastle team v Wolves…

Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Kelly, Joelinton, Bruno, Tonali, Barnes, Isak, Gordon

So that would make it three changes from the Tottenham match.

Krafth, Livramento and Longstaff dropping out.

With Trippier, Schar and Tonali coming into the team.

As well as Emil Krafth has done in Schar’s absence, we can safely assume the classy Swiss defender will return. His composure on the ball and ability to play/bring the ball out of defence has been badly missed, especially with Burn and not Botman the left-sided central defender.

Added to that, Krafth had to drop out of the Sweden squad due to an injury and has only returned to training towards the end of the week.

I also strongly fancy Kieran Trippier to start as well.

Tino Livramento has done nothing wrong so far this season but I think with both Schar and Trippier retiring from international duty, Eddie Howe will have relished the chance to work with them, plus Burn and Kelly, throughout the international fortnight.

Completing the team, for me, is Sandro Tonali.

I have seen and heard some people predicting a rest for Bruno and the Italian to replace him.

However, I think Eddie Howe will want to go with what he sees as his first choice midfield and attack today, really try and impose their quality on a Wolves side very short on confidence and positive results.

So I think we will at last today see the dream midfield start, Tonali and our two Brazilians, with Gordon and Barnes supporting Isak up front.
